When Mom and I go out to eat, we often end up really full (or with lots of leftovers) because we think we can eat an appetizer and a full meal all at once. To be fair, sometimes we can, but it mostly depends on how big the appetizer is (note: nachos are pretty much a full meal on their own).

These are two appetizers from Red Lobster taken from two separate visits. I realize these are presentation photos, and don't really show you what the food actually looked like, but take it from me, they were both really good. The first is Lobster Stuffed Mushrooms and the second is Escargot (they're hiding under the mushrooms and cheese).

  1. Yeah, those alone would be a meal. Not that I'd eat them. Don't care for mushrooms and I'm not brave enough to try the escargot (my husband loves them, though).

Sometimes my husband and I will just share an appetizer and call it dinner. It may not be a healthy dinner, but it sure is filling.

    1. I love appetizers for dinner. Sometimes there is so much to the appetizer (and it is so tasty). Beats a main meal sometimes.

  2. I'm not particularly one for seafood, so I've never gone into a Red Lobster, but given the way restaurants load plates these days, having something on the side would be a recipe for being too stuffed, or taking things home in a doggie bag- which these days isn't a doggie bag!

    1. So true. The portions at restaurants are far bigger than I eat at home. Enjoyable for a treat, but I couldn't eat out all the time.

  3. Back when I was able to eat out, I'd often have a starter for my main. Cheaper, sometimes ....

    1. Ya, and sometimes starters are really big. Nachos for sure are giant at most places. I like finger food, so starters are a great option for dinner.

  4. Both look really good! Although I would never eat the escargot. My husband and daughter always split that when we go to Red Lobster; one of their favourite treats. And is it my imagination, or has Red Lobster gotten super expensive?

    1. I think you are right. I think certain dishes have gone up almost $10 over the years. I used to get the Ultimate Feast when it was $23.99 (which was a lot to spend on dinner - so it was always a special occasion), but now it is over $30, which is too expensive for me to order.
