John had a birthday a few weeks ago and his family always gets him a big Chinese food dinner to celebrate. Our favourite place to order from is Canton Restaurant in Midhurst, ON, and it is always worth the 25 minute drive (each way) to get it. We always order a tonne of food and basically have our own Chinese buffet at home.

From L-R:
(back row) Chicken balls, deep fried shrimp, egg rolls, chicken wings, almond soo guy
(middle row) Sweet and Sour sauce (it's giant!)
(front row) Cantonese Chow Mein, chicken fried rice, chicken chop suey, BBQ pork spareribs

I first discovered Canton Restaurant with my family when I was in highschool, and if I was ordering take out with them, chicken chop suey would be replaced with lemon chicken, and there would also be an order of deep fried wontons. No matter who I order with, the food is always excellent and there are plenty of delicious leftovers for lunch the next day.

  1. Mmmm, fried wontons. Those are my favorite! Well, so is beef and broccoli and beef lo mein and pork fried rice and I could go on and on, I suppose. Probably why I stay away. I eat too much of it!!

    1. I think it is all my favourite! I always eat way too much - I am not good at buffet style meals - it all looks so good, that I try and get as much on my plate as I can. Glad we only do this once or twice a year. :)

  2. This looks like a fun tradition.

I made two different stews this week with pork butt ribs. Love how tender the meat was.

    2. Love stews and soups. Made lentil spinach soup yesterday and then some Hungarian string beans. So good because it's loaded with garlic and paprika.

    3. Just made a pasta dish that didn't turn out so well. Or, I don't like it. I'll test it on Tim when he gets home in a bit. See what he thinks.

    4. He ate it but it wasn't great. We have a wee bit left and I don't like it at all.
