It's harvest time so there have been some cheap deals on potatoes. I usually get mine for free from my farmer brother, but he decided not to plant them this year. Brothers, eh? (haha!) I already miss his potatoes - 50lbs of his are just perfect for the winter. Luckily I was able to pick some up cheap from the grocery store.
We've actually gone through 20lbs so far and have another 20lbson deck in the porch. We recently made some into deep fried home fries. They are incredibly delicious and the house always smells like a fair when we're cooking them. We served them with pan fried chicken and gravy and were full and happy for the night.

It looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteMy parents knew a farming family whose crops included potatoes, so they'd get bags around the fifty pound size that would go for months, and were placed in the cold cellar in the basement. They stayed fine.
That is pretty cool. Someday I want a root cellar.
DeleteI would love a root cellar too. We have a "cold room" that is not really a cold room, but it does the job. My brother's potatoes will last all winter if we keep them in there. And don't eat them too fast! :)
DeletePotatoes are one of my most favorite foods. Love them.
ReplyDeleteThey are sooooooo good! I love them every which way, I think.
DeleteI agree. Can't go wrong with a potato.
