I was craving deep fry insanely bad on the weekend so we did up some potatoes. Whenever we make home made french fries or chips, I'm always amazed at how much food comes from one potato. I'm also amazed at how many potatoes I can eat after they've been deep fried.
Using 5 potatoes, we made 3 into fries and 2 into chips. I used the fancy ripple blade on my food processor to make the chips, the fries we cut up by hand.
We soaked the ripple sliced potatoes in water and then spun them a few times in the salad spinner to get the excess water off. We patted them dry with paper towels to make sure they were really dry.
Then we deep fried them.
Salted and full of crunch.
Next we chopped up french fries and got them frying too.
They were really, really good.

Looks yummy (you're making me hungry!). But why would you soak the chips in water just to make sure they were dry before frying?
ReplyDeleteI know, it sounds like a lot of steps, right? The soaking gets all the starch off the potatoes and they fry up nice and crispy. It is totally worth it to get the awesome crunch. I didn't this time, but sometimes I'll even soak them with sugar or salt in the water. It helps add crispiness too.
DeleteGreat minds think alike! Just this past weekend I made french fries from real potatoes. They were great, too. I used to buy frozen fries, but I much prefer to make french fries from scratch. You go girl. Bravo! Cheers!!
ReplyDeleteOh that is great! They are so much better from scratch, eh?
DeleteAlso, I love all the positivity that you have in the comments you post! Thanks for adding happy to my blog! Always makes me smile! Cheers and have a great one! :)
I love happy, positive, upbeat people. That's not to say that every once in awhile we don't get down in the dumps, but we have alot to be grateful and happy about. Focusing on negativity does not do anyone a darn bit of good. I love your blog. Cheers!!
ReplyDeleteSo true. We all have our down times, but it is so nice to share the good times with others. Thanks again for the comments and for visiting my blog. Really appreciate it! :) Cheers!
DeleteThis is seriously freaky, because I've been craving potatoes like mad for the last week. Finally made screaming fries just last night. Spooky stuff, I tell you that. It's like we're connected in some spooky food way.
ReplyDeleteThat is great. We definitely have a food connection, which is a lot of fun, even if it's sppoky. We both love delicious food! :)
DeleteDo you add something to your fries to make them screaming or is that just your name for them? The name sounds spicy.
We call them screamin' fries because they scream when they are ready to be pulled from the oven. But sometimes, I do add cayenne. Other times just salt and pepper. Other times chili flakes, and other times sweet Hungarian paprika and other times, sweet Hungarian paprika.
DeleteBut the screaming title is really because they sound like teeny screams coming from inside of the oven.
I know the sound of which you speak! They really do scream, don't they. Great name.
